A hyperspectral index sensitive to subtle changes in the canopy chlorophyll content under arsenic stress
نویسندگان
چکیده
Arsenic stress induces in subtle changes in the canopy chlorophyll content (CCC). Therefore, the establishment of a spectral index that is sensitive to subtle changes in the CCC is important for monitoring crop arsenic contamination in large areas by remote sensing. Experimental sites with three contamination levels were selected and were located in Chang Chun City, Jilin City, Jilin Province, China. Arsenic stress can induce small changes in the CCC, reflecting in the crop spectrum. This study created a new index to monitor the CCC. Then, the results from the index were compared with these from other indices and the random forest model, respectively. The final purpose of this study is to find an optimal index, which is sensitive to small changes in the CCC under arsenic stress for monitoring regional CCC in rice. The results indicate that the distribution of the CCC is aligned with the distribution of the arsenic stress level and that NVI (R640, R732, and R752) is the best index for monitoring CCC. The correlation coefficient R2 between the predicated values using NVI and the measured values of canopy chlorophyll content is 0.898, which performs better than the random forest model and other indices. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. Towards red-edge positions less sensitive to canopy biophysical parameters for leaf chlorophyll estimation using properties optique spectrales des feuilles (PROSPECT) and scattering by arbitrarily inclined leaves (SAILH) simulated data
Several methods for extracting the chlorophyll sensitive red-edge position (REP) from hyperspectral data are reported in literature. This study is a continuation of a recent paper published as ‘A new technique for extracting the red edge position from hyperspectral data: the linear extrapolation method’. The method was validated experimentally for estimation of foliar nitrogen concentrations of...
متن کاملEvaluation of changes in the water relations, osmotic adjustment and stay- green of different genotypes of sorghum under post-flowering drought stress
To investigate the effects of drought stress on the water stress, osmotic adjustment and stay green of sorghum genotypes and their relationship with grain yield, a split-plot on randomized complete block design with three replications was conducted at the experimental field of Seed and Plant Improvement Institute, Karaj, Iran in 2015. The main factor was three treatments: control (irrigation af...
متن کاملIntegrated narrow-band vegetation indices for prediction of crop chlorophyll content for application to precision agriculture
Recent studies have demonstrated the usefulness of optical indices from hyperspectral remote sensing in the assessment of vegetation biophysical variables both in forestry and agriculture. Those indices are, however, the combined response to variations of several vegetation and environmental properties, such as Leaf Area Index (LAI), leaf chlorophyll content, canopy shadows, and background soil...

Here, we conducted drought stress gradient experiments of maize, and used ten water content related vegetation indices (VIs) to estimate widely variable canopy water content (CWC) and mean leaf equivalent water thickness at canopy level (EWT ̅̅ ̅̅ ̅̅ ̅) based on in situ measurements of Lambertian equivalent reflectance and important biological and environmental factors during the 2013−2014 growing sea...
